Jan Raas

Jan Raas studied, among others, with Piet Kee at the Music College in Amsterdam, where he obtained a degree in music with distinction as a solo organist, with an endorsement for improvisation. He also received the Eugène Calkoen award. In 1974 he won the National Improvisation Contest in Bolsward. In 1977 he was granted the Prize of Excellence at the Sweelinck Music Academy in Amsterdam. In addition, he won the International Organ Competition in Haarlem for three consecutive years: 1975, 1976 and 1977.

Jan Raas is familiar with early instruments (Alkmaar, Rome, Zaragoza, Roskilde) and romantic/symphonic organs (Riga, Budapest, Yokohama, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw).

Jan Raas is a senior lecturer in organ and organ improvisation at the Utrecht School of the Arts and he has been an organist at the Moses & Aaron Church in Amsterdam since 1972.
